Your 2 AM DM Buried Our Crash Reports. Thanks for That.

The DM That Started It

We're a student team, so our hours are a mess. Classes from 8 AM to 6 PM, jobs after, then the project late into the night. By midnight, we finally get quiet code time. That's when we ship. That's also when we shipped our worst bugs.

The crash log after Sami's DM told the story. Host disconnected errors and asset load failures spiked, all tracing to builds pushed between midnight and 3 AM. No bug report needed. No QA suite. The timestamp was the smoking gun.

Context: a crash in an online game hurts more than a game over. You lose progress, your loadout, and the ten minutes you spent setting up. In a free browser shooter, players can just find another lobby. We were betting they'd stick. But every late-night crash gave them a reason to leave.

That's why Sami's question hit hard. He wasn't trolling. He spotted a flaw in our process that we couldn't see because we lived it. Too close to our own screens to notice.

This is a story about a fix, sure. But it's also about the value of questioning how a team versions, not just what. Our players get a steadier session now because one stranger asked one question. That's the collaboration we want.
